The Jeffco Brass Ensemble (founded 1997) is a double brass quintet of amateur musicians of all ranging an age span of over 60 years and widely diverse professional careers. The ensemble began as an adjunct ensemble within the Jeffco Community Band founded in 1984 (see below for more information on the Jeffco Community Band). The Jeffco Brass has performed over 85 times since its inception for a wide array of audiences and functions ranging from church worship services, recitals, theater events, anniversary and birthday parties, Masonic meetings, and special fund-raising concerts. They have performed in over 25 churches throughout Colorado, including worship services, new church dedications, special 100 year and 125 year church celebrations and the 2000 Easter sunrise service at Denver's spectacular Red Rocks Ampitheater for over 9000 worshipers. The Jeffco Brass has regularly performed in the annual July 4th parade and city picnic in Georgetown, Colorado (click here for a list of past performances). They are perhaps most well known for their performances in Italy in the 1999 Christmas season. The ensemble joined with a local orchestra and choir to form the 'Musicians of Saint Clare' and performed in several cities in Italy for the 1999 Jubilee Celebration Christmas Mass. The ensemble's 10-day tour of Italy featured performances in such magnificent venues as St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, St. Mary of the Angel's Basilica in Assisi, and St. Ignatius Basilica in Rome on Christmas Day. Their music repertoire has expanded to include over 100 prepared musical selections, from which they can create a unique concert for varied events. These selections include hynmns and other religious works, traditional and classical brass selections, Big Band arrangements, Dixieland, fanfares, polkas, and traditional marches. The Jeffco Brass Ensemble's love of music is reflected in the quality of their performances. They have a lot of fun and their primary goal is to make sure the audience enjoys the music and has fun too. Jeffco Community Band The Jeffco Community Band was founded by Robert Hurrell in January, 1985 as a way for amateur adult musicians to rehearse their instruments and perform on a regular basis. The initial band had about 15 members and has grown to 90+ musicians over the 17 years of its existence. The band is open to all musicians, 18 years and older, regardless of playing ability. There are no auditions and Bob Zachman, the director, is always able to find a place for everyone. The Jeffco Community Band meets every Thursday
night from mid September to early December, and again from mid January
to early May, from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Rehearsals are held at the
Arvada United Methodist Church at 68th and Carr St. in Arvada. The
band performs four free concerts a year: one in October, one in December,
one in February, and one in May. All concerts are on Thursday nights.
